At Legacy in the Community, we believe that no one should have to choose between buying essential period products and meeting other everyday needs.
That’s why we’re proud to launch Just in Case – a new community-led initiative that will provide free, discreet access to menstrual products for people experiencing financial hardship across Merthyr Tydfil, with outreach into Powys and West Wales.
Thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, Just in Case will run for an initial 12 months, helping to remove one of the many hidden barriers that can affect confidence, wellbeing and participation in everyday life.

More than period products

Period poverty is about much more than access to sanitary products. It can affect education, employment, physical health and mental wellbeing. For many people, the embarrassment of having to ask for help can be just as significant as the financial barrier itself.
Just in Case has been designed with dignity at its heart.
Through trusted community venues, local organisations and support services, people will be able to access products discreetly, without judgement and without unnecessary barriers. Wherever possible, products will be provided in small reusable pouches, making them practical to carry while helping to normalise access to everyday essentials. Our aim is simple: take what you need, when you need it.

Powered by our community

One of the things we’re most excited about is that Just in Case will be driven by the community.
Alongside our team, volunteers will play a vital role in helping us prepare pouches, manage stock, raise awareness and ensure products reach the people who need them most. Community involvement will shape how the project develops, helping us respond to local needs and making sure support remains accessible, respectful and sustainable.

Could your organisation become a distribution point?

We’re now looking for community organisations, charities, support groups, food banks, schools, GP surgeries, libraries, community centres and other trusted venues to become Just in Case distribution partners.
By hosting a small supply of products, you could make a real difference to someone in your local community. We’ll provide the products, guidance and ongoing support—you simply provide a safe, welcoming place where people can access them with dignity.

While the project has been made possible through National Lottery funding, community support will be key to its long-term success.
